A number of factors will cause regular acne to flare up into a break out so horrible you don’t want to step out the door. I’ll include a mini list of some of these factors to help you gain a fresher understanding of some of the elements that can cause acne breakouts.

Pressure on your skin from hats and helmets (face), backpacks (shoulders and back), tight clothing (body acne):

If there is pressure against your skin, as is the case when wearing hats, and helmets, or when a backpack is pressing down against your shoulders, the potential for irritation and breakouts are multiplied. Friction, as is true when someone is wearing tight clothing, or pressure (as in hats and helmets) can go a long way towards stifling a pore’s breathability and cause acne to flare up.

The Cause Of Acne Breakouts

There are, of course, many possible causes for acne breakouts.

People of all ages, lifestyles, and backgrounds can develop it, and the causes can be different for each.

The first step to understanding what is causing your acne is knowing your skin type and how to care for it. If you have oily skin, you wouldn’t want to use a facial cleanser containing oil because your body is already producing a good amount of it. Likewise, if your skin is dry, you wouldn’t want to necessarily use a product that is oil free. Perhaps, one of the most common myths is that oily skin does not need to be moisturized. Oil is not moisture, and all skin needs moisture! Determining the cause and caring for your type of acne, as well as properly caring for your skin is crucial in controling acne breakouts.

Skin Basics

There are other medications that can be taken orally to help eliminate excess oils by keeping the body from producing it, along with various other medical remedies that help treat acne. Before you can treat it, however, you need to understand what is causing the trouble.

There are several types of acne, each requiring different methods of treatment.

Though all pimples may form beneath skin’s surface, they often take on different shapes and characteristics when they reach the outer layer of your skin. They also react differently to different treatments on different people.

Acne is formed when a hair follicle becomes clogged and a comedo is formed. As the follicle becomes further clogged with more oil, the comedo becomes larger, inflaming the skin around the area and forming those horrid pimples!

Non-inflammatory acne often takes the form of a closed comedo, or whitehead. This occurs when the plugged hair follicle stays beneath the surface of the skin, and appears on the skin as a small white bump.

An open comedo, lovingly known as blackheads, occur when the plug enlarges and pushes through to the surface of the skin. The dark look of these is not due to dirt, but rather to a build up of the dark pigment of the skin called melanin. Blackheads are also considered an inflammatory acne even though they are generally flat on one’s face.
