Tea tree oil is a natural oil derived from the Melaleuca alternifolia tree. While it’s been used for 100s of years in Australia as a treatment for just about anything, Tea Tree Oil has only recently been accepted by modern medicine as being a viable anti-bacterial agent.

In a ground-breaking study in 1990 by I.B. Bassett, tea tree oil was found to be as effective as 5% benzoyl peroxide in the treatment of common acne.

Although Tea Tree Oil takes longer to be as effective none of the common side effects associated with benzoyl peroxide were reported.
