Mother of Pearl Cream
What kind of Les Paul I?
I wonder if it is a custom, standard, studio, ????. It's and Epiphone, limited edition, quilted maple, transparent black, no pickguard, mother of pearl trapezoid inlays, cream binding, Truss Rod on the cover, it says "Gibson". I can not find this guitar all catalogs or online anywhere. I just want to know what it is. All help is appreciated. The serial number is U99070361
It seems to me as if you have a LP "Standard, or Classic. The current Gibson Pauls, have "Standard, Classic, Deluxe, Custom, etc" on the truss rod covers. However, most Epi only have a cover that says "Gibson", which really makes no sense to me, since there is a real Gibson … this is an Epi, Gibson made to the specifications. And 'the cream binding and trapezoid position markers that give the feel of a "standard "…. However, the quilt top, transparent black finish makes me believe that you have a "Les Paul Classic." Standard "and" Classic "are basically the same bodies with different hardware. "Custom" markers will position the rectangle and binding on the front and rear of the body. The Studio, "" will dot position markers and not binding on the body. without actually seeing your guitar, this is about the best information I can give you. Here is a link to the "Epi Classic Quilt Top. Click the photo of the black and see if it looks like yours. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Les-Paul-Classic-Quilt-Top?sku=518353 Have a great day and Keep on rockin '! FOLLOW UP … The serial number of guitar does not always indicate the actual "model" of the guitar. It mostly shows the date and place of production. The model is based on type of hardware that is used to complete the guitar. Even with Fender, the serial Strats and Tele are similar … though they are two completely different models of guitars. On basis of the serial number you provided, here is the information I could find. … Note that the Epiphone guitar is made by "A Sung Musical Instrument Company" … not made by Gibson, as the marketing geniuses would have us believe. This raises once again my question, why do they even bother putting the Gibson name on the torsion bar cover?
