Moisturizing Acne Prone Faces

In the last post we talked about your skin’s upper layer (layer one of seven).

Today we’ll talk about your skin s natural moisture barrier.

When this is intact and functioning perfectly, the moisture barrier helps your skin to combat environmental attacks such as smog, air pollutants, cigarette smoke and the like.

However, if your skin’s moisture barrier is not intact – as is the case with people who have dry skin and acne breakouts – you need to use a specially formulated moisturizer with the least amount of added or chemical ingredients.

Moisturizers are now available with glycerin, petrolatum, or aloe vera based compositions. Remember sensitive skin will likely react quickly to anything it doesn’t like so begin any new product at 1/2 strength and only on a small patch of skin for the first week.

Of course these low ingredient moisturizers aren’t just recommended to people with dry skin. Acne patients will also benefit from using moisturizing creams that contain the least amount of added ingredients.

And, if you’re an acne sufferer with oily skin, look for noncomedogenic, non-pore clogging, creams, gels and moisturizers.
