AHA for Adults

If you’ve been considering buying into the AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) craze for acne control, you might want to understand the concept and the outcome before spending your money and dousing your skin in the product.

AHA is used for Adult Acne – Alpha Hydroxy Acids

Alpha Hydroxy Acid treatments will take your skin to a new beauty and give you a clear complexion. Imagine finally being free from acne scars, fine wrinkles, or dull skin that seems to be without life. However, there are some caveats and possible risks associated with AHA.

Whether the type of acid used in the product – glycolic, lactic or arginine – they are all still acids, and acids can be very damaging to sensitive facial areas if not used with care. In fact, that’s the entire premise of AHA treatments. To dissolve the natural moisturizers your skin produces. By doing so, dead skins are more readily sloughed off the surface and the new and bright cells appear. Your stratum corneum will be refreshed.

How it works: The acids penetrate into your skin if they are not properly neutralized. If you are having a spa treatment or at the dermatologist’s office, a mixture of baking soda and cool water will be used as the first rinse to disable the process of skin exfoliation. This is, of course, at the point where the [tag]AHA acne treatment[/tag] has noticably reduced the thickness of your stratum corneum. Your face (or other treated area) will now be more sensitive to allergens, sun exposure and treatments.

All clients treated with AHA should be pre-informed about those sensitivities. Keep your skin clean and be sure to use a sunscreen of SPF15 or higher. You should also have been told not to use any creams or treatments on your face that haven’t first been inspected and improved by the spa or doctor after an [tag]alpha hydroxy treatment[/tag].

These treatments (arginine, glycolic or lactic acids) are most often recommended for hyperpigmentation, [tag]acne scarring[/tag] and anti-aging treatments. With a skilled dermatologist or clinician the results can be fabulous.

  • I use an AHA home treatment and it has made a remarkable improvement on my facial scars. Just thought I’d like to add that in case anyone is worried about taking this route.

Start slow to see how your skin reacts. It is great for me.
