I just read an article by a woman named Alicia Caledas asking: “What do former presidents Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltsin have in common?”
The answer? A condition called acne rosacea!
Truly that’s news that will help you not feel so alone or frustrated if you have this condition. Acne Rosacea is a chronic inflammation of your skin’s blood vessels. That inflammatin causes a blush-like, ruddy complexion, often accompanied with small acne eruptions in the T zone and cheeks.
Men usually get the worst of Acne Rosacea as it causes the skin on the nose to thicken and swell, leading to a condition diagnosed as rhinophyma. If you’re a woman reading this, be thankful for your femininity- not frustrated.
Nobody knows what causes , but the list of potential trouble makers are endless. Main culprits are alcohol and hot, spicy foods.
As well as not knowing what causes , there’s no known cure either. However you can set a skin care routing that will help your particular case. Watching your diet, lifestyle, and any other trigger - then discontinuing those behaviours, will help keep the rosacea from worsening. You might also try using standard acne treatments such as topical antibiotics.
Talk to your doctor and ensure that your diagnosis is, in fact, acne rosacea.
Just want to leave a note about your article on rosacea because there’s a couple of factual inaccuracies: firstly standard acne treatment should not be sought as they can actually worsen the symptoms of rosacea; and secondly the main culprits are neither alcohol or spicy food (although they can figure) but heat and sun exposure. Acne rosacea is a completely different skin condition to acne and should be treated as such. That’s all. Great site.
