Acne Issues
While it may be easy to laugh away a friend’s obsession over facial acne this condition is more common than most would believe.
The obsession begins with awareness over every clogged pore (or possible clogged pore) and tiny red mark on the face. I mention a ‘possible clogged pore because there are actually two clinical forms of acne obsession to that include excoriated acne and imagined acne.
Imagined acne happens when someone is sure s/he has acute acne problems even though they may have only one or two small pimples ever month. That one blemish is seen as a gross misfiguration and the person may become obsessed with finding the cure, constantly covering it in creams or concealers, or any other obsessive behaviour.
Excoriated acne is when a person with acne continues to pick at or squeeze acne pimples or clusters on their face, never allowing the skin to heal. The constant picking at facial blemishes aggravates the condition and usually leaves scarring.
The root of the cause of both of these conditions is the fear of being socially unacceptable, or unattractive.
It s a sad psychological state in a society that puts full emphasis on airbrushed looks and perfect complexions.
If you, or someone you know has an acne obsession, seek help or take these small and simple steps to correct the trouble.
Spending less time agonizing in the mirror about your skin’s condition.
Take on a new hobby. Something that will grow your confidence and keep your mind away from your skin obsession.
Remember, admitting to a problem is the first step in healing. Go easy on yourself or your friends (if they have an acne obsession), seek help and be supportive.
