Do you make your own soap? A friend of mine just passed on a few recipes to me that she swears by.

I checked out the list and they look like natural acne fighting ingredients to me. At any rate, as long as you follow standard soap making procedures (anything with lye should age 6 weeks before use) these can’t harm your skin and may clear up any bouts of acne - current or future!

Oatmeal and honey, a natural astringent soap, and a refreshing acne mask recipes follow….

Getting A Grip on Acne Control

Let’s just back up today and talk about acne control and the various treatments.

Most people’s journey begins with buying over the counter treatments such as gels and lotions. Usually quite effective against acne outbreaks.

The main ingredient in most of those acne gels and lotions is benzoyl peroxide. It is the most popular chemical for this type of treatment. You’ll see it in the big brands such as Clearasil, Oxy (any of the Oxy line), and Neutrogena.

Benzoyl Peroxide is most effective when used to treat acne early on - before it becomes a full blown skin condition. And, it’s important to keep in mind that any of the over the counter treatments are actually preventative - not cures against later outbreaks.

So what to do when it’s too late for prevention?

Acne Scar Photo
Tony R wants to know:

I have been getting acne since I was 11 years old on my forehead and here I am 10 years later still getting acne but now I get them on my cheeks. I have tried many over the counter face washers but they never worked very well.

Now I have many scars and blemishes on my cheeks that I want to get rid of. Acne has been taking over my life for the last decade and I want to successfully put it to a stop. I notice that I break out the most when I dont get enough sleep and stress but I suffer from insomnia. I want to visit a dermatologist but I am a college student and dont make much. I really want to get rid of my acne scars. Can anybody give me some suggestions to speed up the recovery of my scars to make my skin look more toned?

Please only answer if you have personal experience. Thanks!

Acne Rosacea Management

Read a comment »

I just read an article by a woman named Alicia Caledas asking: “What do former presidents Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltsin have in common?”

The answer? A condition called acne rosacea!

Truly that’s news that will help you not feel so alone or frustrated if you have this condition. Acne Rosacea is a chronic inflammation of your skin’s blood vessels. That inflammatin causes a blush-like, ruddy complexion, often accompanied with small acne eruptions in the T zone and cheeks.

Men usually get the worst of Acne Rosacea as it causes the skin on the nose to thicken and swell, leading to a condition diagnosed as rhinophyma. If you’re a woman reading this, be thankful for your femininity- not frustrated.
