More On Adult Acne

A few years ago my daughter’s friends used to say in an innocent manner, “You look so much younger than my mom”.

Having a normal level of confidence I couldn’t help by find myself in the mirror the next day wondering “Do I really look younger than I am?”

I do, and I finally figured out why…

It was because, even after I’d hit the 30 year old mark, I still had acne!

Sure I still felt like a teen - and was even known to act it out at times - but there’s no good reason for a mother at my age to still be plagued with this skin condition we usually associate with teenage hormones running rampant.

Adult Acne - Enough is Enough!

Acne vulgaris is the most common skin disorder in Canada and the United States. Statistics report that over 15 million people are afflicted with acne and, in many cases those suffering are well past the teenage mark of life. How Do Acne Scars Start?

There are a few varieties of acne scars - each has different causes, but all are treatable. The top two causes of acne scars show up on your face from 1-6 months after a bout of severe acne, or when acne lesions have been forcibly picked, squeezed or scratched.

The most effective method of acne scar treatment is prevention. It goes without saying that you should never squeeze an inflammed pustule or zit, because squeezing damages the surrounding skin as well as forces the bacteria within acne pus deeper into your skin’s pores (the main cause of acne scarring).

Acne Scar Treatments

There are now many ways to treat acne scars - a few are even over the counter creams which I’ll discuss later.

Causes of Baby Acne

This isn’t really one of my topics, but I just read an article about this and thought I should share the information here in case you have a baby in your life that is experiencing acne…

Recognizing Baby Acne

If your baby has tiny bumps on his or her face at birth this is likely not baby acne, but milia. Milia bumps are not related to acne and they will disappear within a few weeks. However, if your baby develops (and wasn’t born with) bumps on his or her skin, they may have baby acne. It can show up on the facial or back area.
