There are a number of less frequently used treatments for acne which can make a major difference by working on the less widely known causes of acne breakouts. Taken together with a more conventional treatment or on their own, these treatments can make a world of difference.

I have had acne all my life. I'm only 15, and I have had seen more dermatologists for acne treatments than most people ever have in their entire life. The dermatologist told me that acne scars can be mistaken for hyper-pigmentation. Hyper-pigmentation looks like little faded brown scars on your cheeks or wherever you had acne the most. The difference is: Acne scars won't go away by themselves, but hyper-pigmentation will eventually.
I came up with an acne mask that actually works with clearing acne, making skin soft, and reducing visibility in scars/hyper-pigmentation. Wash your face before you do this with a gentle cleanser (I use the blue Nivea Visage for normal to combination skin.)

1/2 tsp organic extra virgin olive oil
1 tsp honey
1 tsp plain yogurt
a sprinkle of oatmeal (not cooked)
one mushed strawberry

Mix this all together in a bowl and leave it on your face for at least 15 minutes, then wash off with warm water.

The strawberry is really good for your skin since it has Vitamin C to reduce the visibility of any scar or hyper-pigmentation and natural Salicylic Acid, which you would find in topical acne creams in over-the-counter products. The rest of the ingredients attack the acne to reduce visibility and soothe the redness.

If your skin is oily, I would recommend half of the amount of olive oil.
If your skin feels really oily after this, (like mine did when I was testing this out) then I would quickly wash (not thoroughly) with the pink Native Visage for dry and sensitive skin.
If your worried about the oil, it won't clog your pores. There are a lot of things on the internet about olive oil clogging pores, but the dermatologist recommended it (mostly for dry skin)

This mask sounds crazy, but I used it last night because whenever I'm sick, I break out in blackheads, big pimples, little pimples and under grounders (pimples that are under the skin and hurt a lot).
After I used this mask, I used Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment. When I woke up, I was thrilled to see that my stupid stubborn acne was not as bad as it was before. In fact, it looked like all the pimples had gone away.
I'm not going to lie, it doesn't totally get rid of ALL acne, but it helps to get rid of most of it and helps your skin to not feel bumpy. This with a combination of drinking water, taking multi-vitamins, eating healthy and exercising will clear up your acne and make those scars or hyper-pigmentation look less visible.

This mask has helped my friends acne clear up, and I hope it will clear up yours too :)

I swear by CVS's Day & Night Scar Treatment! I had the biggest acne scars on my skin, and after only a months use of this treatment I noticed a dramatic difference! This is a silicone treatment which can be bought at any CVS store!

I had severe acne as a teenager and now that I'm in my 30's I have an occasional breakout. I would always read in the beauty magazines that you should apply a moisturizer on your face but I was reluctant because of my acne-prone skin. I'm not sure why I decided to give the Made from Earth Vitamin Enhanced Moisturizer a try but I am so glad I did. I have been using it every day for over a year now. It does not make my skin breakout at all (a big plus in my book). It makes my skin very smooth and gives me that "dewy" look. It also helps my foundation look more natural looking because the moisturizer is so hydrating. I also like the fact that it protects my skin from the sun.

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a moisturizer. Despite it's high price (compared to other brands) it's definately worth it, especially since it lasts for a long time.
